Different Models Based on Your Needs

The two lowest priced options are the Laredo, which has few upgrade packages available, and the Laredo E, which offers a bit more customization.

Jeep’s next five Cherokee models increase in price, upgrade points, and luxury features. These include the Altitude, Limited, Trailhawk, and Overland variations. The Trailhawk, Overload, and Summit are more specialized in off-roading capability with the Quadra Drive 2 system being built into their chassis.

The SRT is the most expensive and powerful model and has its own variation of the popular hemi engine. This model is for ultimate off-road enthusiasts and those in need of a heavy-duty vehicle for towing and traversing rough terrain.

Jeep is celebrating its 75th anniversary by offering special editions of the Laredo and Limited models. These anniversary editions contain extra functionality and flair that dates back to Jeep’s origins; they’re a must-have for Jeep enthusiasts.

Wide Variety of Engines Depending on Model

Most 2017 Grand Cherokees have the standard 3.6-liter V6 Venistar engine. It has 2WD and 4WD variants. Unfortunately, the Venistar just isn’t available in the high-end SRT model.

The next step up in engines is the hemi. There’s a 5.7-liter hemi available for $3,300 to $3,800 extra, but most of the top trims come equipped with the 5.7-ltr. engine off the lot. It’s upgradeable to the 6.4-ltr. hemi the SRT comes fitted with if desired. If you choose the 6.4-ltr. instead, it sports a powerful 475 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque to get you through nearly any driving conditions. Finally, there is the 3-ltr. V6 EcoDiesel engine; this is a newcomer to the scene and isn’t yet available on 2017 models.

Off-Roading Systems

Next up are the 4WD systems. Jeep’s lower-end Quadra Trac system doesn’t boast as much power as some other models, but it’s still able to get the job done in most scenarios. The Quadra Trac 1 is 4WD all the time, while the Quadra Trac 2 is also 100 percent 4WD with additional low-range functionality and power distribution to get over those tough bumps.

Jeep’s Quadra Drive 2 system comes with low-range functionality and electronic limited subdifferential support. This is one of the best options for those looking for a hardcore off-roading experience. The Quadra Lift air suspension system gives you a 10.8-inch ground clearance for that extra muscle needed for the roughest of terrain.
