The 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee recently hit Jeep dealer showrooms across the country, and consumers have been impressed with the popular mid-size SUV’s style, on-the-road capability, and towing power. The Jeep Grand Cherokee has made huge jumps in popularity, in recent years, and 2017 could be the year it takes the crown as the best-selling mid-size SUV in the U.S.
The 2017 Grand Cherokee isn’t a big departure from its predecessor, but it doesn’t need to be. The current Cherokee design offers performance, comfort, and amenities in a gorgeous package. For 2017, Jeep made a few cosmetic tweaks on its Summit and SRT trim levels and added a new Trailhawk version of the vehicle for serious off-roaders.
On the Road
The Grand Cherokee has built a solid reputation as an on-the-road performer, and the 2017 model does not disappoint. The Grand Cherokee offers four engines: a standard 3.6-liter V6, a 5.7-liter V8, a 6.4-liter Hemi V-8, and a 3.0-liter Eco-Diesel V6.
The standard engine provides ample oomph on the highway and good towing power, but the Hemi is in a class of its own. The Hemi V8, which cranks out 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft. of torque, can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. The vehicle’s CVT transmission makes shifting smooth and easy, even with the added power of the upper-end engines.
Off-road versions of the Grand Cherokee offer 4×4 driver trains, terrain selection features, and adjustable air suspension—all great features for off-the-road adventuring. Off-road enthusiasts will definitely want to check out the Trailhawk version of the vehicle, which has a number of electronic and mechanical features to make off-roading fun.
The base Grand Cherokee can tow 3,500 lbs., but Cherokees with the V8 can tow up to 7,200 lbs.
Interior & Tech
The Grand Cherokee has a truly grand interior, with generous head and elbow room throughout the vehicle. Wide doors make getting in and out easy, and well-padded seats will make all the difference on long trips. Five adults can easily travel in comfort in the new Grand Cherokee. Moms and dads will also be pleased by the vehicle’s 68.3 cubic feet of cargo space.
The Grand Cherokee is outfitted with the extremely easy-to-use Uconnect infotainment system. The vehicle also offers a variety of electronic safety features, such as blind-spot monitoring and collision alerts.
Next year, Jeep will completely redesign the Grand Cherokee, ushering in a new design generation. Few details have yet to emerge concerning the new vehicle, but experts expect a well-thought-out design from Jeep to reinvigorate one of its flagship models.
